As a very young musician, he took his diploma with top marks at Santa Cecilia Conservatory under the guidance of Marco Costantini, and he won numerous Italian International competitions (I Pomeriggi Musicali in Milan; Orchestra Regionale Toscana; Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia; the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra).
His intense performance activity has brought him to every part of the world, both as a highly regarded soloist and in leading chamber ensembles.
In 1990, he took part in the concert that the New York Philharmonic Orchestra organized at New York’s Carnegie in memory of Leonard Bernstein. He performed Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante during the Santa Cecilia symphonic season with Carlo Maria Giulini on the occasion of the latter’s eightieth birthday.
Invited by Daniele Gatti to serve as principal bassoon in London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, from 1996 to 1998 his work included prestigious concerts and recordings at the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican Centre, and at BBC Proms in London.
In February 2004, he performed as soloist Carl Maria von Weber’s Bassoon Concerto op. 75 during the Santa Cecilia 2003/2004 symphonic season, with Myung-Whun Chung conducting.
With the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, he performed numerous solo concertos, including W. A. Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto K191 and Sinfonia Concertante, E. Wolf-Ferrari’s Suite-concertino in F major for Bassoon and small orchestra, and Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante.
In September 2004, he again appeared as a soloist at the K Festival produced by the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, where, with the Santa Cecilia Orchestra conducted by Thomas Netopil, he performed W. A. Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto K191.
His repertoire for bassoon and orchestra is vast, including concertos by J. C. Bach, Boismortier, Danzi, Françaix, Jolivet, Kozeluh, Hummel, Mozart, Muthel, Rossini, Rolla, Stamitz, Vivaldi, Vogel, Carl Maria von Weber, and others.
He has worked with leading conductors and, in chamber ensembles, with such world-renowned artists as Antonio Pappano, Michele Campanella, Uto Ughi, Salvatore Accardo, Franco Petracchi, Massimo Quarta, Antony Pay, Giuliano Carmignola, Andrea Lucchesini, Alexander Lonquich, Enrico Dindo, Heinz Holliger, Leonidas Kavakos, Isabelle Faust, Raphael Christ, Sabine Meyer, Jacques Zoon, Alois Posch, Reinhold Friedric, Wolfram Christ, and others.
His teaching activity includes numerous courses and master classes. From 1997 to 2000, he was Winds Instructor in the preparatory courses for the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia youth orchestra.
He is the instructor of the bassoon Master Course at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and bassoon professor at Conservatorio L. Perosi in Campobasso.
